Crib Sheets
Dear Students,
Whenever your homework assignment is to study for a quiz or test then I want you to make a crib sheet. An explanation of a crib sheet follows.
While studying create a crib sheet -- a collection of *learning objectives* from the study materials (notes, worksheets, labs, etc.) that are important but which you are not sure you will remember easily without intense review and memorization. Crib sheets should include short facts, keywords, tables, charts, drawings, formulas, etc. The ultimate purpose of your crib sheet is to help you memorize items that can be written down once the test has been passed out. As you complete your studies, you should fine-tune your crib sheet to include just the *essential details* needed to ensure you get it straight and remember it exactly as needed for the test. As an aid to memorizing the crib sheet, you should recopy it several times until you are able to write it out in totality without looking back at a previous copy. Perform this task one last time before going into the test, then the first action you take once the test starts is to write out the information you recall from the crib sheet onto the test and use as needed throughout the test. If you study in this manner you will have greater retention of the material and earn higher test grades.
The making of a crib sheet is required for each chapter test. It will be collected on test day, graded and returned to you so you can store it in your binder under crib sheets. When it comes time for the final exam you will use your crib sheets to review for the final. The making of a crib sheet is a study tool that teaches you how to organize pages of notes onto one easy to memorize sheet of paper. You will earn higher grades in high school if you have good study habits. The study habits you learn in high school will probably save your life in college.
A good crib sheet includes all of the learning objectives listed on the chapter web-page.
Study chemistry daily.
