MCHS School Improvement
Updated News!
Dear Parents, Students, and all District #101 taxpayers,
Morris Community High School is involved in ongoing school improvement planning. Even long before the public displays of test scores that, according to No Child Left Behind, seem to indicate failure, MCHS has been steadily working toward improvement in every curricular area.
Last year marked the inauguration of a new MCHS effort, when we initiated meetings under the title of our "Parent School Improvement Panel (PSIP). Through these meetings, parents and community members were able to voice their opinions, concerns, and share ideas, in an attempt to give the high school's own improvement team more timely and direct feedback for use in efforts toward continuous improvement. If you would like to participate in these discussions, then please plan to attend our next PSIP meeting scheduled for 7:00 pm on August 30, 2010. This meeting will take place in the auditorium, and will certainly include the ideas and suggestions being addressed at our recent work study sessions, concerning an upcoming "daily schedule" proposal requested by the board at their July 12th school board meeting.
Please also note the following list of other initiatives the high school has in place in our ongoing efforts to promote school improvement on behalf of our students. Here is what we have been doing, or are working on: 1. Our curriculum project is heading into it's 8th year. 2. Our School Improvement Team is in it’s 7th year. 3. The Board of Education strategic planning is in it’s 5th year. 4. Our Math curriculum changes will enter there 5th year this fall. 5. Our Silent Sustained Reading program is in it’s 3nd year. 6. Our new Curriculum Coordinator is now in her 2nd year at MCHS. 7. Our new Curriculum Review Cycle just completed it’s 2nd year. 8. Increased professional development has been directed at math improvement, reading improvement, targeted classroom teaching strategies, and instructional differentiation strategies. 9. The parent school improvement panel, will initiate it's second year when it meets at 7:00 pm on August 30,2010 in the auditorium. 10. Years of ongoing School Improvement team, student discipline advisory committee, and department meetings still use input from many sources.
In the end, my promise is that MCHS will never take the education of your student for granted. As such, I welcome your input, and encourage you to remain active! Please feel free to contact me by email at khussey@morrishs.org.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kelly J. Hussey
Principal
