How do the grades work?
As a freshman, for the first time in your education, grades become permanent. Your term grades are kept on a piece of paper called a transcript that can be sent to universities and employers.
Morris Community High School uses a school wide grading scale:
100 - 92 A
91 - 83 B
82 - 74 C
73 - 65 D
64 - 0 F
You will receive a report card at the end of each quarter (nine weeks) that will list grades. These grade are a progress report unless the class is a quarter class (Driver's Ed, keyboarding and speech). Final grades will be 85% grade and 15% final exam. For more up-to-date grades throughout the grading period, use powerschool.
Block Scheduling
Morris Community High School used a 4 x 4 block system from 1996 to 2011.
Every student took 4 courses that met for 89 minutes every day.
The calendar year included four nine-week grading periods where the standard class was worth .5 credits per nine-week term.
Classes ranged in length from nine weeks to thirty-six weeks.
A typical "year-long" course was completed in 2 terms (half-of the year) since the course met every day for almost 90 minutes.
