Mathletes advance 23 to State Finals
The Morris Mathletes placed second overall at the ICTM Regional Math Contest on Saturday, February 20. Out of the 30 students who competed, 23 have advanced to the state finals. Five teams finished in first place, while three teams earned second place.
In first place were the Algebra I team of Harmony Alford, Fernando Del Toro, Nikole Eliakis, Rachel Neuhalfen, Lauren Sokolinski, and Levi Steele; the Geometry team of Jaymee Cole, Kyle Eliakis, Paul Kolotka, Katie Lincoln, Kevin Wendling, and Blake Wilhelmsen; the Algebra II Team of William Del Toro, Chris Gallick, Katelyn Mantey, Ryley Steele, Nick Terhall, and Taylor Wolfer; the Junior-Senior Two-Person Team of William Del Toro and Chris Gallick; and the Junior-Senior Eight-Person Team of Katie Kreig, Katelyn Mantey, Nick Terhall, Taylor Wolfer, Ali Chatten, Joel McVey, Arianna Pempe, and Kelsey Schluntz.
William Del Toro and Taylor Wolfer tied for first place individually in Algebra II, while Chris Gallick, Katelyn Mantey, and Ryley Steele all tied for third place. Arianna Pempe finished first in Pre-Calculus, Harmony Alford placed second in Algebra I, Jaymee Cole placed second in Geometry, and Blake Wilhelmsen placed third in Geometry.
Everyone who finished in first place individually or as a team advances to the ICTM State Math Contest to be held on May 1 at the U of I.
In second place were the Pre-Calculus team of Ali Chatten, David Mantey, Joel McVey, Arianna Pempe, Kelsey Schluntz, and Kelly Schwantner; the Freshman-Sophomore Eight-Person Team of Kyle Eliakis, Paul Kolotka, Katie Lincoln, Kevin Wendling, Harmony Alford, Fernando Del Toro, Hannah Hesslau, and Levi Steele; and the Calculator Team of Jake Waldron, Kaity Washburn, Tom Woodard, Blake Wilhelmsen, and Sean Phillips.
The Morris Mathletes are coached by Mr. Vahle, Mrs. Shannon, and Mr. Ortiz.
