Mrs. Zan Higgins, FCS
Welcome to the FCS dept. (Family Consumer Sciences)!
Hello I am Mrs. Higgins, I teach Foods I and Textile and Design I and II, and GAVC Culinary Arts I and II.
I have been at Morris Community High School for 22 years teaching several classes in the FCS department. I truly feel the best way to teach is to experience the hands on creation food to clothing, a project made is always better appreciated when the person has made or tried to make the recipe or project. Currently the Foods I classes, focus on healthy habits for a successful student, kitchen safety and sanitation and many cooking and culinary skills, we finish the class with a three course themed meal. Textile and Design is all about students becoming comfortable with the use of a sewing machine, understanding some fibers and fabrics and care of projects. Some of the sewing projects have been, microwave fabric bowl, drawstring bag, flannel pants/shorts, apron with embroidered pocket, pillowcase, small quilts and a fabric purse or bag.
