Driving and Texting Can Be Fatal!

We have a new law in Illinois which states you can not text and drive.  You will receive a citation for $75.00 if you are caught.  The hope behind the law (and all laws) is that you use some common sense and avoid doing it.  You may be upset when you receive a citation for any reason, but would you rather be in the person's shoes who brought the driving and texting issue to the forefront?  That person (more than likely, dozens of people) probably killed someone or died themselves to bring so much attention to the issue, creating new laws in a number of states.

I previously posted a video on this page from YouTube regarding texting and driving.  The video was removed because it was just too graphic to post here.  The video showed some high school aged girls traveling together in a car while the driver is checking a text message.  They, of course, get into a violent crash and you get to see how terrible being involved in an accident can be.  It can be life changing.  After seeing the video, a number of people I spoke with felt it sent a very strong message.  They thought of the victims in the video every time they intended to text while driving.  I hope you have an opportunity to see it.

I guarantee there are many driver's out there who will continue to text and drive and get into serious accidents regardless of the new laws.  I have been in law enforcement in one capacity or another since 1985.  Car accidents can be some of the worst scenes where emergency personnel have to respond.  Unless some people become victims themselves or know someone who has been a victim, some habits will not change.  I hope you don't become the victim because the other driver is checking his texts......

Please do not text and drive.
